Course Sequencing
At Hoggard High School many course sequences are available to students. First and foremost we encourage each student's course selection to be based on the student's future goals, the students strengths and interests, an honest perspective on work ethic, and thought given to the student's out of school time commitments. Below are listed some basic traditional course sequencing for New Hanover County Students. If your student is a part of the Freshman Academy or planning courses to be in the IB Diploma Programme, they might deviate from these sequences based on recommendations for their specific program. Additionally, if your student earned credits in middle school, has a special learning plan, or any other non-traditional circumstances that may impact scheduling, please consult with your student's counselor.

*Alternate sequencing is available for special circumstances, but the above listed is general sequencing for New Hanover County Schools General Curriculum.
*Honors and Advanced Placement Options are available for many courses. The difference between honors or standard/regular courses is the level of depth to which the subject is explored, and the amount of independent work expected of the student (more homework & reading required). The curriculum of Advanced Placement courses are comparable to the depth and workload of college level coursework. AP Course Guide

It is the responsibility of the student and parent to be aware if a college or university requires coursework for admission beyond what New Hanover Count Schools requires for graduation (for example, most 4 year colleges require 2 semesters of the same foreign language, and some 4 year colleges require Chemistry over Physical science, or a 4th science). Admission requirements are most frequently posted on a school's undergraduate admissions web page.
